Worldviews
is a joint Chicago Council on Foreign
Relations (CCFR) and German
Marshall Fund of the United States (GMF) project aimed at
investigating the attitudes of the American and European public
on a range of foreign policy issues. First conducted in 1974,
the CCFR quadrennial public opinion survey is the most comprehensive
and widely cited source of information on U.S. public and leadership
attitudes on international relations and foreign policy. This
year, for the first time, CCFR partnered with GMF to undertake
a parallel study in six European countries. The results help illuminate
how Americans and Europeans look upon the world and each other
one year after the terrorist attacks on New York and Washington.
The survey
covers a broad range of foreign policy issues including:
- perceptions
of foreign policy problems and threats post-September 11
- international
terrorism
- assessments
of the Bush administration’s foreign policy performance
- Iraq
- the Middle
East
- American
and European views of each other
- the role
of NATO and other international institutions
- the impact
of globalization
